Central Okanagan Public Schools is located in the Central Okanagan valley encompassing the communities of Peachland, West Kelowna, Kelowna, and Lake Country.

There are 50 school sites with 32 Elementary Schools, 8 Middle schools, 5 Secondary Schools, 3 Learning Centres, an Alternate Education School, and an Online Learning School (6-12). Central Okanagan Public Schools is seeking a visionary educational leader to serve as District Principal – Student Health, Safety and Wellbeing, effective July 1, 2026. Reporting to the Director of Instruction – Indigenous Education, Student Safety and Wellbeing, the successful candidate will lead prevention, intervention, and response strategies to support safe, caring, healthy, and inclusive school communities. The District Principal – Student Health, Safety and Wellbeing will collaborate with schools and community partners to create innovative and supportive learning opportunities and environments that build students' foundational skills and competencies and promote health and wellbeing in accordance with the British Columbia Ministry of Education and Child Care curriculum programs and initiatives.

Key Roles, Responsibilities and Areas of Leadership

  • Feeding Futures, Food and Nutrition Literacy - Oversee and lead the District's Feeding Futures Program.
  • Coordinate the procurement and delivery of food, staffing allocations, training, and infrastructure for food programs
  • Manage budgets and perform reporting requirements for the Ministry of Education and Child Care and the Board of Education.
  • Partner local and provincial organizations to build food security for students and families.
  • Coordinate learning and professional development for educators who promote nutrition and food literacy.
  • Develop and support student learning opportunities to promote nutrition and food literacy.
  • Health Promoting Schools – Develop and lead a comprehensive Health Promoting District Plan.
  • Oversee and implement school-based programs that promote student health and wellbeing.
  • Coordinate learning and professional development for educators who promote student health and wellbeing.
  • Liaise and partner with local and provincial community organizations to support student health and nutrition.
  • Healthy, Safe , and Inclusive Schools – Lead the implementation of services to schools that support diversity, equity, inclusion, and racial equity.
  • Support the implementation of the Anti-Racism Framework.
  • Adopt and align leadership practices with diversity, equity, inclusion initiatives and policies
  • Strengthen support for Sexual Orientation Gender Identity (SOGI) practices and education.
  • Safe Schools Coordination – Develop and implement a comprehensive District Safe Schools strategy.
  • Lead prevention, intervention, and response strategies to support healthy, safe and inclusive schools.
  • Coordinate learning and professional development to promote healthy, safe and inclusive schools.
  • Liaise and partner with local and provincial emergency response organizations to support safety and intervention strategies, and responses.

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold Ministry of Education and Child Care Teacher Regulation Branch certification.
  • Have received a master's degree from a recognized university in a related field.
  • Minimum of five years recent experience as a school principal. Preference will be given to Principals with experience across K – 12.
  • Display strong interpersonal skills and highly effective communication skills.
  • Possess highly developed knowledge and skills to lead teams and support teacher pedagogy to promote student safety, health, and wellbeing.
  • Work collaboratively with at all grade levels K-12 and with other specific assigned duties.

The annual salary range for this position is $157,240 to 165,664, plus a competitive benefits package.
