International Programs Coordinator (Continuing)

THE OPPORTUNITY INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS COORDINATOR
Reporting to the Manager and/ or the Principal, International Education, this position provides support for International Education programs and initiatives. Responsibilities include coordination of short-term cultural, academic, and homestay programs, supporting international student success, guiding and assisting International Education support staff, and liaising with established schools, partners and agents.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinates and supervises short-term programs, department events, and other initiatives.
- Supports the marketing and promotion of international programs and events.
- Assists in the day-to-day operations of the homestay program and in the overall effective
functioning of the International Education office.
- Oversees host family admissions and application process.
- Coordinates and delivers a wide range of international student services and events, including an
extensive orientation program (host family, student, and agent events).
- Participates in the recruitment process for department staff and supervises, trains and coaches
homestay employees, extending to clerical staff when their duties directly impact the objectives of
the Coordinator, including involvement in performance management.
- Advises and makes recommendations to the department Manager/Principal with regard to
admissions, student services, customer service expectations, and improved procedural
efficiencies.
- Oversees the Homestay Coordinators in the vetting, selection, training and placement of
homestays. This includes reviewing applications, verifying criminal record checks, background
checks, home visits, reference checks, and the collection of other relevant information.
- Oversees regular communication to homestay families (e.g. quarterly newsletter, Homestay
website, etc.).
- Monitors homestay issues and policy decisions both within and outside the District, informing
program staff of changes. Recommends modifications and policy updates.
- Manages and oversees the ongoing recruitment of host families to the program.
- Provides school tours to recruiters and potential international families.
- Liaises with school-based staff to address international student support matters and problem-solving
student and homestay issues.
- Facilitates student connections with school and community-based activities.
- Provides support to students in schools as required.
- Shares responsibility for emergency after-hours calls and follow-up planning/interventions.
- Occasionally may be required to travel internationally to represent the District.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors’ degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
- A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience, including supervisory experience within the international education sector, preferably in a unionized setting.
- Experience working in a BC K-12 system.
- Outstanding skills in interpersonal and cross-cultural communication, and conflict resolution.
- Knowledge and understanding of rules and regulations surrounding immigration law and the Immigration Act, and related legislation.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate, implement and evaluate services and events that support students, including those focused on orientation, retention and transition.
- Demonstrated success in overseeing the functioning of a busy office, including leading people and teams.
- Solid command of English and experience in delivering public presentations.
- Strong analytical and written communication skills.
This is a full-time continuing position, effective July 1, 2026. The salary range for this position is $76,844 – $96,055, plus an excellent benefits package.
