Position :

The qathet School District is seeking innovative leaders who demonstrate a strong commitment to student achievement and well being, truth and reconciliation, equity, diversity, inclusion, and who are dedicated to advancing the District's Strategic Plan and supporting Board goals. As a candidate for this position, you will demonstrate your experience and leadership as they are recognized in the competencies expressed in the: BCPVPA | BC Principals and Vice Principals .

The qathet School District is located on the Upper Sunshine Coast of British Columbia within the traditional territory of the Tla'amin Nation. Powell River offers a mix of urban and rural living in a naturally beautiful setting. The Successful Candidate Will Demonstrate:

  • A minimum of five years successful teaching experience, preferably at the Secondary level;
  • An understanding of the leadership role in educational change;
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to support the use of differentiated instruction and a multi-tier system of supports;
  • An understanding of the unique role of secondary school leadership in supporting student transitions—from elementary to secondary, through graduation, and into career-life pathways;
  • An understanding of First Peoples Principles of Learning and proven ability to work with Indigenous students and families;
  • An ability to engage teachers in data collection, analysis and dialogue about student learning and instruction;
  • Knowledge of technological applications in an educational setting;
  • An ability to model and support continuous inquiry and professional learning for self and others;
  • A demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team setting;
  • A demonstrated desire to work with students beyond the classroom setting;
  • Knowledge and desire to implement School, District, and Provincial educational goals;
  • An ability to work in a unionized environment;
  • Membership in accordance with the BC Teacher Regulation Branch.
Qualifications :
  • A Master's Degree in Administration; Education Leadership; Curriculum; or other relevant areas (or currently in progress).
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Education.
  • A valid BC teaching certificate or eligibility for certification with the BC Teacher Regulation Branch.
  • Experience leading programs and initiatives at the school and-or the District level.
  • Experience in fostering inclusive education.
  • Experience incorporating Indigenous Education and Inclusion environments.
  • Experience leading and teaching in a unionized public-school setting using the BC curriculum
Starting Date:

August 1, 2026, or another mutually agreed upon date.

Salary:

As per the BCPSEA Regional Salary Model for Vice Principals - Minimum $146,771 | Maximum $149,364.

This is an exempt position offering a competitive salary and benefits.
