SECONDARY COUNSELLOR

(1.0 FTE Temporary )

School District No. 42 (SD42) meets the learning needs of approximately 17,000 students of all ages in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows and is defined by its determination to keep student learning and growth at the heart of all its decisions. With an annual budget of over $200M and over 2,000 staff, the school district provides K-12 educational services in 22 elementary schools, six secondary schools, and two alternate schools. It also provides a variety of certificate programs and relevant quality life-long learning opportunities through Ridge Meadows College and Continuing Education.

SD42 is looking for a qualified applicant interested in working as a Counsellor in Westview Secondary School, for a 1.0 FTE temporary position, effective September 1, 2026, until June 30, 2027. A Secondary School Counsellor supports students in Grades 8–12 and includes responsibilities related to Careers 9, International Counselling, and International Liaison. The counsellor provides personal, academic, career, and group counselling, while also offering mediation, liaison support, and assistance during critical incidents. Additional responsibilities include coordinating emergency referrals, connecting students with community agencies, supporting school-to-school transitions, liaising with the RCMP, assisting with career and post-secondary events, and organizing SAT, ACT, TOEFL, CPT, LPI, and other post-secondary entrance assessments.

Qualifications:

• A master’s degree in counselling psychology or equivalent, combined with successful classroom teaching experience,
• Valid BC Teaching Certificate & TQS card
• The ability to work as part of a strong collaborative team and have excellent interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills.
• The ability to work with outside agencies including understanding integrated case management.
• The knowledge and understanding of what an effective school based team looks like and how to organize and operate it.
• The knowledge of the Ministry requirements for the full Grade 8-12 secondary school program and ability to complete all Ministry documentation necessary to satisfy graduation requirements and to assist students in completing scholarship and bursary applications.
