Our District

Our district is located in the central interior of British Columbia with two central hubs, Williams Lake and 100 Mile House, and many outlying communities throughout the region including Dog Creek, Likely, Big Lake, Horsefly, Nemiah Valley, Alexis Creek, Tatla Lake and Anahim Lake. The district has a student population of approximately 4600 students within 24 schools and an annual operating budget of approximately $64 million dollars.

   Summary

Due to an expected vacancy, the Board of Education seeks a collaborative leader to serve as Director of Instruction – Child Care, Early Learning, & Inclusive Education.

The Position

The Director of Instruction – Child Care, Early Learning, & Inclusive Education reports directly to the Superintendent of Schools and is a key member of the Senior Learning Team. Key responsibilities include:

Child Care & Early Learning

  • Build and strengthen relationships between district, community and rightsholders to enhance early learning experiences throughout the district
  • Build capacity to expand access to quality early care and learning opportunities for children and families on school property
  • Assist schools with developing/expanding before and after childcare opportunities for children and families on school property
  • Collaborate with employee groups to ensure successful implementation and operation of child care spaces on school property
  • Assess and manage provincial funding, resources and supports for existing and expanding early learning programs and initiatives (i.e., StrongStart, Changing Possibilities for Young Children, JustB4 Seamless Day Kindergarten, Ready, Set, Learn, and Feeding Futures)
  • Oversee the design and implementation of professional learning to enhance the understanding of the Early Learning Framework and early learning instruction for K-3 teachers, Early Childhood Educators, Education Assistants and Principals/Vice Principals

   Accessible BC Act Planning and Implementation

  • Oversee the planning, development and implementation of the work related to the Accessible BC Act that will remove barriers for individuals within the organization and those that interact with the organization under the principles of inclusion, adaptability, diversity, collaboration, self-determination, and universal design

Inclusive Education

  • Providing leadership for the District’s current and future student learning initiatives to meet the needs of all students including those with disabilities and diverse abilities
  • Recruitment of specialist staff for Student Support Services
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

  • Teacher Regulation Branch certification or eligibility
  • Master of Special Education or Education preferred, with appropriate school and/or District Leadership
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in early childhood education
  • Strong understanding of the BC Early Learning Framework
  • Ability to lead the development, growth and management of child care spaces and early learning programming
  • Strong Special Education background and detailed understanding of inclusion and the delivery of educational services to students with disabilities and diverse abilities
  • Commitment to action for Truth and Reconciliation
  • Experience supervising staff in a management capacity
  • Extensive and successful experience in working with child support agencies
  • Superior interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts effectively
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Exemplary organizational and planning skills
  • Strong managerial skills and financial/budget experience
  • Demonstrated high ethics, flexibility and accountability

The salary range for this position is determined by the BC Public Service Employer Association (BCPSEA). The range for this position is $161,168 to $175,000 per year with a comprehensive benefits package and pension. Placement on the salary range is dependent on qualifications and experience.
