High School Math Teacher
Summary:
Bella Bella Community School Society is seeking a dedicated and energetic Math Teacher to join our high school team. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching math courses from grades 8–12, including Workplace Math 10–12 , Foundations of Mathematics and Pre-Calculus 10 , and Pre-Calculus 11–12 . We are looking for a compassionate individual with confident classroom management skills committed to supporting academic success in mathematics and building strong, meaningful relationships with students. This role also includes contributing to school-wide priorities and participating in team planning and collaboration.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and implement engaging and appropriate instructional programs in mathematics.
- Create a classroom environment that promotes critical thinking, curiosity, and a love for numbers.
- Use balanced assessment and feedback to support and improve student learning.
- Establish and maintain a classroom culture that encourages participation, perseverance, and problem-solving.
- Adapt instruction to accommodate different learning needs and styles.
- Support students in developing core competencies in numeracy, reasoning, and communication.
- Support the development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) as part of a collaborative support team when necessary.
- Monitor and assess student progress and provide timely and constructive feedback.
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure alignment of curriculum and instructional strategies.
- Integrate technology effectively, including the use of Google Classroom and Microsoft 365.
- Support school initiatives and contribute to a positive school environment.
- Additional duties may be assigned within the same scope and job level.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Deep understanding of the BC Ministry of Education's Mathematics curriculum and assessment strategies.
- Flexibility to adapt teaching strategies to changing classroom and school contexts.
- Ability to use digital tools to enhance student learning and collaboration.
- Commitment to working with youth, colleagues, families, and community members in a team setting.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on inclusivity and student engagement.
- Interest in contributing to extracurricular activities and broader school community life.
- Cultural responsiveness and a willingness to learn about and incorporate Heiltsuk culture and values.
- Willingness to support and engage with the SEAS (Supporting Emerging Aboriginal Stewards) program and other community-based learning.
- Proficient in managing and integrating online learning platforms, such as IXL, to support student learning and track progress.
Required Education, Experience, Certifications and Licences:
- Valid BC Teaching Certificate issued by the Teacher Regulation Branch of British Columbia.
- Specialization and/or experience teaching high school mathematics (Grades 8–12).
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (vulnerable sector).
- Experience working in Indigenous education settings is preferred.
- Understanding and appreciation of Indigenous culture, history, and ways of knowing.
