Position Title: Teacher (Elementary and/or High School)

Accountable To: Director of Education

Hours of Work: 35 Hours/Week Monday - Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm

Tsay Keh Dene School is looking for a motivated, adventurous Teacher who would like to join our dynamic and energetic team for a rewarding experience in a remote northern First Nation community. Tsay Keh Dene is a community with an average population of about 200 people on the northern shore of the Williston Reservoir. The community is nestled in the scenic Rocky Mountain Trench, north of Prince George, BC and is accessible by a forest service road or by airplane. There are plenty of outdoor activities such as hiking, hunting, fishing, camping, and others. The school provides competitive wages and benefits. Teachers are provided with professional development opportunities and subsidized accommodation throughout the contract term.

Requirements

Successful candidates must:

· Bachelor of Education

. Teacher's Certificate

· be able to pass a vulnerable sector criminal record check

· posses a valid British Columbia teaching certificate or must be certified in another jurisdiction and eligible for certification in BC

Teaching at Tsay Keh Dene School

  • Salary $70,000 - $90,000 - depending on experience
  • Rent and utilities paid for by the Band
  • Employee benefits (includes massage, chiropractic, orthopedic, naturopathic, vision, dental, and prescriptions)
  • Retirement package (we match 5% - 5.5%)
  • Flight provided from point of hire to Tsay Keh Dene at start of the contract
  • Flight from Tsay Keh Dene to point of hire at the end of the contract
  • Moving allowance up to $1000
  • $500 to spend on classroom supplies for school
  • Three weeks paid vacation at Christmas
  • Two weeks paid vacation at spring break
  • Flight from Tsay Keh Dene to Prince George to start Christmas and spring break
  • Flight from Prince George to Tsay Keh Dene at the end of Christmas and spring break
  • Fully furnished housing (including bedding, couches, TV, dining room table and chairs, dressers, all major appliances)
  • Brand new SmartBoards in each classroom (2019)
  • Use of school 4x4 pickup truck & 2 snowmobiles

Requirements:

Educational and Experience

  • Post-Secondary Education / Bachelor Degree in Education
  • Member of British Columbia teacher regulation branch (or working towards membership)
  • 3 to 5 years of experience as a teacher is preferred.
  • Proven ability to successfully work and interact professionally with children, youth, parents/guardians, staff, and visitors.
  • Experience working in the First Nations community is an asset.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Good organizational, time management and prioritization skills.

•Strong morals and ethics, sound judgement and reasoning skills, along with a commitment to discretion and privacy

  • Strong verbal and written communication; and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computers and peripherals.
  • Physically able to perform all assigned tasks.
  • Criminal record check clearance

Competencies:

  • Must be adaptable, flexible and willing to work closely in a collaborative teaching environment. Must be willing to live and work in a remote northern First Nation community.
