THE OPPORTUNITY FRENCH COORDINATOR 0.2FTE
Reporting to the Director of Learning, the French Coordinator provides district leadership for French Immersion and French as a Second Language (K-12), ensuring alignment with Ministry priorities and district strategic goals. Oversee development, implementation, and monitoring of a coherent k-12 French program framework, support administrators with program delivery, staffing, and quality, while working collaboratively with Human Resources.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee development, implementation, and monitoring of a coherent K–12 French programmes framework; support administrators with programme delivery, staffing, and quality.
- Manage planning, allocation, and reporting of OLEP funding, ensuring compliance and alignment with district priorities (e.g., literacy, equity, inclusion); monitor and report on impact.
- Supervise and support French Helping Teachers, including coordination of work plans, professional learning, and evaluation; lead capacity-building initiatives and collaborative networks to support instructional practice and teacher retention.
- Oversee the DELF programme, including planning and administration; ensure alignment with assessment frameworks and use of data to inform programme improvement.
- Promote authentic Francophone cultural experiences and partnerships to enhance student engagement and language acquisition.
- Serve as a liaison with Ministry, post-secondary, and community partners; collaborate across departments to support programme delivery.
- Monitor enrolment, retention, achievement, and staffing trends; identify system-level needs and provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in Education (preferred) and valid BC Teaching Certificate.
- High proficiency in French and English (oral and written).
- Demonstrated leadership experience at the school or district level, including supporting adult learning and professional development.
- Strong knowledge of French Immersion and FSL pedagogy, second language acquisition, and inclusive practices; experience with DELF or proficiency-based assessment is an asset.
- Experience managing budgets or targeted funding (OLEP preferred) and aligning resources to strategic priorities.
- Experience supervising or coaching educators and supporting recruitment/retention in specialised programme areas.
- Strong strategic thinking, communication, and relationship-building skills; effective project management and commitment to equity and inclusion.
