High School Math, Science and Technology Teacher (1.0) September 1, 2025

 

Lach Klan School is located in the village of Lax Klan, also known as Kitkatla, on Dolphin Island, 60 kilometres south of Prince Rupert, BC. The Gitxaala, also known as Git Lax Moon, people of the saltwater, are one of the most ancient societies on the Northwest coast.  The community has a population of approximately 400 people.  Health and wellness guide a variety of community initiatives, often including Lach Klan School.  Our school includes pre-school to grade 12 and currently serves 80 students.  The area is home to a wide variety of animal and sea life, a multitude of islands, and breath-taking views.  This area is abundant with opportunity for an outdoor enthusiast.

A continuing Math, Science and Technology teacher is required by Lach Klan School effective September 1, 2025. Interested teachers who are a member or who are eligible to become a member of the Teacher Regulation Branch are invited to apply. Assignments may change depending on enrolment and curricular needs.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Differentiate lessons to meet the needs of all students, while helping to create a rigorous learning environment
  • Build collaborative and effective relationships with students, staff, parents and the community
  • Teach and follow the BC curriculum particularly standards based learning and assessment
  • Primarily teach Math, Science and Technology to grades 8 - 12 students and/or other courses as needed
  • Flexible, dynamic, results oriented
  • Willing to lead and participate in extra curricular activities

 

Qualifications/Recent Experience:

·          Knowledge of Aboriginal World View and understanding of First Nations communities in the Pacific Northwest

·          Bachelor of Education

·          A proven ability with assessment of and for learning strategies.

·          Successful experience integrating local Indigenous culture and traditions into the curriculum, or familiarity with and             understanding of local Indigenous culture and commitment to integrate it into the curriculum.

·          A proven ability to develop a positive learning environment in the classroom and evidence of strong organizational                and classroom management skills.

·          The ability to establish and maintain positive relations with students, staff, parents, and the greater community.

·          A commitment to and successful experience working collaboratively in a team setting.

·          Exceptional and creative teaching skills.

·          Certified or in the process of becoming certified by the British Columbia Ministry of Education Teacher Regulation                 Branch.

·          Recent successful teaching experience in the grades and courses of study.

·          Ability to undergo a successful criminal record check for working with vulnerable populations.

·          This position may include other assigned duties.
