We are currently hiring:
CUSTODIANS
Custodians are responsible for performing routine cleaning and maintain the upkeep and safety of schools and facilities. Custodians take on a range of janitorial task on including, cleaning waxing, and ensuring adequate heat and light. Custodians have an essential role in the Operations Department; they assist school based staff in locking or unlocking rooms, moving furniture and equipment. Custodians are responsible to maintain the recycling program.
Custodians have knowledge regarding methods, materials and equipment required to provide high standard custodial services. Also a working knowledge of systems to safely respond to an emergency is needed.
Custodians will be working on a casual basis and will be on-call throughout the district. Full time work is available for custodians working on a casual basis and casual custodians are eligible to apply on full time vacancies. Please note that while the majority of shifts are from 3:00pm to 11:00pm, Monday to Friday, successful applicants may be required occasionally to work day shifts or during weekends.
Applicants for Custodial positions must have completed Grade 10 and have successfully completed the Building Service Worker (BSW) course or a comparable course/training. Ideally, candidates will have at least two years' experience in the application of modern custodian methods and procedures.
Successful applicants will also be expected to:
- Have the physical condition and health to carry out the required duties of this position;
- Possess a level of English to be able to understand oral or written instructions;
- Display excellent interpersonal skills and professional demeanor;
- Work with little or no supervision and be a team player;
- Complete a criminal record check.
The hourly wage for this position is $26.74 per hour . Casual custodians will get 5% of bi-weekly earnings in lieu of vacation, 5% of straight time earnings in each pay period in lieu of statutory holidays.
After successfully completing a probationary period and attaining seniority, casual Custodians will receive 10% in lieu of benefits
