Electrician (Maintenance) 

Under the supervision of the Manager of Operations and Transportation, the Journeyperson Electrician (Maintenance) provides a wide range of skilled electrical and maintenance tasks across School District 10 facilities and assists other trades as required.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical installations, repairs, and preventative maintenance on lighting, outlets, panels, and control systems in accordance with a defined preventative maintenance schedule, and the BC Electrical Code.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and assist with repairs on HVAC systems including furnaces, boilers, ventilation and air conditioning units.
  • Assist with IT infrastructure by installing, maintaining, and repairing low-voltage systems such as data cabling, intercoms, security systems, and classroom A/V connections.
  • Carry out general testing and servicing of fire and intruder alarm systems.
  • Obtain supplies as required and recommend equipment purchase or replacement.
  • Work collaboratively with other trades and district staff to ensure timely resolution of issues and project completion. Perform maintenance tasks related to other mechanical, and systems trades as assigned.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean, safe work environment. Perform all duties in compliance with applicable codes, WorkSafe BC regulations, and district policies and protocols.
  • Performs other duties, which can be considered reasonable, as assigned by the Manager of Operations and Transportation.
  • Be willing to accept emergency call-outs for repairs.
Required Qualifications and Experience
  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Certification as an electrician journeyman (as set out in the BC Industry Training Authority Act or equivalent Inter-Provincial technical qualifications).
  • Two years of related work experience at the journeyman level.
  • Field Safety Representative (FSR) certificate is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to take direction, carry out assigned duties independently, and work as part of a team with other tradespersons.
  • Working knowledge of other trades systems such as capable of working on electrical, mechanical, plumbing, heating and cooling systems is required.
  • Have a good working knowledge of the BC Electrical Code, ensure work is conducted relevant to building and safety codes, and be proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints.
  • Physically capable of performing the duties of the position, including lifting 50+ lbs and working in various environmental conditions.
  • Hold a valid BC Class 5 Driver's License.
The wage for this position is $39.94/hour per the collective agreement between the Board of Education of School District 10 (Arrow Lakes) and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 2450.
