Kitasoo Community School is seeking a dedicated and passionate High School Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will teach high school students (grades 8-12) in a variety of subject areas, foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, and contribute to the holistic development of students. As a small, community-based school in Klemtu, BC, we value educators who are adaptable, culturally responsive, and committed to supporting the academic and personal growth of students in a remote setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Delivery:
Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with the BC curriculum in designated subject areas (e.g., English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, etc.).
Adapt teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities, ensuring all students can achieve their potential.
Integrate Indigenous knowledge, language, and perspectives into the curriculum to promote cultural understanding and relevance.
Student Assessment and Evaluation:
Assess and evaluate student progress using a variety of formative and summative assessment tools.
Provide constructive feedback to students and parents/guardians regularly.
Prepare and maintain accurate and up-to-date student records, including report cards and progress reports.
Classroom Management:
Create a positive and respectful classroom environment that promotes learning and collaboration.
Implement effective strategies for managing classroom behavior and ensuring student safety and well-being.
Collaboration and Professional Development:
Work collaboratively with colleagues, support staff, and the administration to meet the needs of students.
Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practices and stay current with educational trends.
Contribute to school initiatives, events, and extracurricular activities.
Community Engagement:
Build strong relationships with students, families, and the broader community to support student success.
Respect and honor the cultural traditions and values of the Kitasoo/Xai’xais Nation.
Education and Certification:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field.
Valid BC Teacher Certification or eligibility to obtain certification.
Experience:
Previous teaching experience at the high school level is an asset.
Experience working in Indigenous communities or remote settings is an advantage.
