TEACHER (Elementary School)
Our student population is expanding and, as such, we are looking to fill three important roles as Elementary School Teacher to support students for the school year at the Klappan Independent School in Iskut, BC. These Classroom Teachers (Grade 4/5, 6/7, and Grade 10 Connected Classrooms) will provide a solid and safe foundation which fosters the student’s physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and cultural development.
Klappan Independent School, soon to be Łuwechōn Kots’ede’i Kime - (Łuwechon House of Learning) offers a welcoming team environment and a rewarding job experience as you join us providing services to the students of the school. We offer a small student to teacher ratio allowing you to support children individually and in small groups.

As a teacher here, you must be willing to meet the needs of all students and are willing to learn on the job! Although you will be taking direction in some important aspects, you will be able take action to support the students in their learning and sense of well-being. JOB SUMMARY:
The Classroom Teacher supports the students and works with the educational team in activities inside and outside the classroom. This position supports students in their educational programs and in an inclusive, Indigenous learning environment. They may need to support children to stay on task and/or complete work despite a wide range of learning, physical, and/or behavioural difficulties.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Always maintain caring but professional relationships with students.
- Provide inquiry based, problem solving based and project based learning opportunities
- Utilize academic programs including Reading Mastery, ReadWell, Corrective Reading, Math Makes Sense
- Prepare and deliver long term, monthly and daily lesson plan activities
- Develop and oversee individual learning plans for each student as required
- Ensure that students’ overall needs for achieving success are met
- Collaborate with Education Assistants and Cultural Workers regularly and as required
- Enforce the school discipline policy
- Participate as a member of the school supervisory and extra-curricular teams
- Provide written student evaluation reports and attend parent-teacher-student conferences
- Ensure that accurate and complete student records are maintained
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with parents
- Respect privacy and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information seen or heard as well as communicate progress.
- Always be a positive role model for all students, parents, staff and community.
- Ability to work effectively in diverse classroom settings.
- Ensure student safety during various activities, including classroom sessions, playground sessions, field trips, on the land cultural learning, etc.
- Collaborate with physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and other professionals to implement individual therapy programs.
- Be flexible and adaptable to changing schedules
- Participate in all school events and after school activities
- Participate in staff meetings, school-based team meetings and Professional Development.
- Supervising students & managing student behaviour
- Understand and follow Iskut Band Council (IBC) and School policies and procedures.
Job Qualifications
- Current member in good standing with the BC College of Teachers
- Satisfactory criminal records and vulnerable sector search
- Current First Aid/CPR certificate or willing to obtain
Experience (Preferred):
- 2 years’ teaching in a First Nations environment - or relevant experience
- Experience working with First Nations communities
- Experience teaching at the elementary or intermediate level
