Position Overview
The Head of School provides educational leadership and oversees the daily operations of the school. This role works collaboratively with teachers, staff, and the Board of Directors to ensure a safe, well-organized, and high-quality learning environment. The position includes classroom teaching 3–4 days per week, supported by a full-time Education Assistant. Responsibilities include academic leadership, staff supervision, operational planning, and policy implementation.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Staff Support
- Work closely with teachers to support curriculum implementation and classroom practices
- Create and maintain teacher schedules
- Conduct staff observations and evaluations
- Support professional growth and provide constructive feedback
- Foster a positive, collaborative school culture
Operations & Administration
- Develop and distribute monthly school calendars
- Coordinate and organize school field trips, including logistics and communication
- Oversee staffing needs and support hiring processes as required
- Collaborate with Board members on policy development, review, and implementation
- Prepare and present Head of School reports for Board meetings
Communication & Community
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with staff, families, and Board members
- Act as a point of contact for staff support and operational concerns
- Promote a welcoming and inclusive school community
Qualifications
- BC Professional Teaching Certificate
- Minimum 5 years teaching experience
- Montessori Training is an asset
- Leadership experience required
