School Counsellor play a crucial role in supporting the mental health and well-being of students while promoting academic success, offering essential support in academic planning, personal growth, career planning, post-secondary transition, and social development.

School Counsellors work closely with students, families, teachers, and the community to foster a positive, safe, and inclusive environment for all students.

Middle and Secondary School Counsellors

Applicants must:

• have a professional teaching certificate;
• have a minimum of two years of successful classroom teaching experience;
• have a Masters degree recognized by the Teacher Regulation Branch in Counselling Psychology (or a related discipline with a focus in counselling);
• have training and/or experience as an Middle and Secondary School Counsellor as per School District Policy #510 and #510R;

• be willing to work in a collaborative/team environment to implement BC's Education Plan and the Redesigned Curriculum;

• be prepared to participate in the implementation of the school level Collaborative Model of Support and the district Strategic Plan;
• be prepared to use technology (e.g.: computers, Smartboards, digital portfolios, voicemail, e-mail, web sites, MyEd BC) for planning, attendance monitoring, communication, classroom instruction, IEP writing, and reporting purposes;
• be prepared to work positively towards the fulfillment of the School and District goals;

Preference will be given to those applicants who:

• have both training and experience as a School Counsellor;
• have experience with grades 7-12 age groupings;
• have Indigenous ancestry (as per Special Program with the BC Human Rights Tribunal).

The starting annual salary for this teaching position ranges from $57,972 to $106,217, with placement on the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement.
