SUMMARY

Reporting to the District Principal of Early Learning, the Strong Start Facilitator facilitates the planning and implementation of a parent interactive early learning Centre for pre-K children and their parents/caregivers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • - Collect, analyze, and compile statistical data concerning family attendance and demographics to report to the Ministry on Strong Start Centre efficacy.
  • - Create a literacy enriched environment, which fosters an appreciation for books, phonemic awareness, etc.Facilitate a welcoming, safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all participating children and families.
  • - Facilitate play-based activities with play stations designed to promote early learning which include access to art, puzzles, and creative dramatic play.
  • - Ensure curriculum is designed for parents of pre-K children, which promotes parent skill acquisition in the area of child-centered developmental training.
  • - Ensure curriculum is designed for pre-K children, which promotes cognitive and language development, physical, and social and emotional development.
  • - Provide a daily structured snack time which models healthy eating.
  • - Provide opportunities for service providers to connect with parents / caregivers and children at the centre and provide them with resources which include public health, community support organizations, libraries, ESL, and literacy.
  • - Provide referrals for young children who may have developmental or other special needs for further screening and assessment.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

- Grade 12 graduation and completion of Early Childhood Education Diploma, supplemented by additional training in a related field (e.g.: social recreation; community development; etc.)

- Possession of a valid Community Care Facilities Branch license to practice and a valid Emergency First Aid/CPR certificate.

- Two (2) to three (3) years of experience training adults to support the early learning of their children and experience supporting the development of children and families through child-centered developmental training.

- Ability to work in a variety of settings with diverse ethnic populations.

- Knowledge of community resources for families with children under five (5) years old.

- Ability to communicate effectively using tact, discretion, and diplomacy in contacts of a difficult or specialized nature.

- Ability to determine, judge and select appropriate course of action within limits of established methods and procedures.

- Basic knowledge of computers.

  • - Physical ability to perform the required duties.

Rate of pay: $28.39 per hour.
