Temporary Teaching Position (0.2 FTE)

Immediately to June 30, 2024

(Uikala Language & Cultural Instructor)

School District #49 (Central Coast) is accepting applications from teachers with a demonstrated commitment to developing a positive student-centered learning environment through:

1. Demonstrate competence in traditional and contemporary Wuikinuxv culture;
2. Knowledge of First Nations instructional strategies;
3. Sound knowledge of technologies and their educational application;
4. Sound knowledge of intervention skills for behavior and cognitive difficulties;
5. Be able to work and interact positively and proactively with other teachers, Wuikinuxv Elders and the Wuikinuxv community at large.

Requirements:

1. Member of the BC College of Teachers;
2. Training in Wuikinuxv culture;
3. Be willing to submit to a local criminal record check;
4. Uikala language fluency is preferred;
5. Be able to read and write the Uikala language;
6. Must demonstrate a mature, caring, and dependable attitude;
7. Be knowledgeable in Wuikinuxv history especially stories and legends;
8. Be knowledgeable in Wuikinuxv protocols dealing with stories, legends, song and dance;
9. Required to provide a year plan and thematic cultural unit plans.

Preference will be given to candidates who have:

1. Experience in teaching First Nation students.
