Newbridge Academy is looking for a combined Grade 3-4 fulltime classroom teacher that will have between 3-6 students. We are also looking for a Grade 5-7 combined teacher of no more than 10 students due to a maternity leave in October/November.
Newbridge Academy is BC’s first bilingual Mandarin- English university preparatory school. We are certified by the BC Ministry Education and Childcare which requires us to hire BC certified teachers. Teachers from other provinces may apply. If from other countries, please refer to: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/education-training/k-12/teach/become-a-teacher
Opening in 2018, the school is in its 7th year. In this short time, the school has grown to become a K-7 school, with aspirations to continue to Grade 12. We are located in South Surrey, just 2 blocks from White Rock; home of the beautiful Crescent Beach and boardwalk. The area has many facilities near the school.
The school has a current enrolment of 25 with a maximum capacity of 40 students. Class sizes are intentionally small so that students get maximum interaction with their teachers. Our current strengths, besides small class sizes are: a bilingual education, reading, visual arts, math , field trips and the ability to create tradition and history. Our classes are combined; currently, K-1, 1-2, 3-4 and 5-7. For Physical Education and Visual Arts, we often combine K-2 and 3-7.
Newbridge Academy supports meaningful homework during the year, and during the holidays (optional on part of parents; however most read.) We support our reading program using dolch and Fry sight words, Reading A to Z and its assessments, buddy reading, and weekly trips to the local public library. Our Math program uses Singapore Math. In K-Grade 3, we use BC’s My Math Path and from Grade 4 -7 we use the US Edition of the Singapore Math Program. A variety of resources are used for other subjects. Mandarin is taught 45 minutes a day by a native speaker. We also offer second language Mandarin classes. Math and Mandarin are blocked against each other so that each subject is taught at grade level as opposed to combined with another grade. French is also taught as an exposure language.
Our school is fun and busy. Our curriculum linked field trips include the Pumpkin Patch, Science World, the Planetarium, the Beach, Vancouver International Children’s’ Festival, and Historic Stewart Farm. In addition, we bring on site a performer(s), performance(s) or demonstration(s). This program continues to build. Furthermore, we have created the following events with more being created every year: Terry Fox Run, Family Pumpkin Carving Contest, 50s Day, the Winter Musical, Secret Santa, Chinese New Year Festival, Chinese Reading Competition, English Public Speaking Competition, Annual Indoor Curling Bonspiel, and Sports & Activities Day.
Newbridge Academy offers a competitive salary and benefits plan. We do not have students with special needs nor assistants. Professional development is also offered dependent on school or teacher needs. We meet weekly afterschool as a faculty; however, there are no requirements for participation in after school programs on behalf of the teachers. We follow a usual calendar year; however, we take a 3-week winter break.
