Position: YOUTH ENGAGEMENT WORKER

Location: Forest Grove Elementary, Mile 108 Elementary, Horse Lake Elementary

10 mos., 27.50 hours/week.

Duration: Effective September 5, 2023. Schedule is Monday – Friday. This position will work one (1) day per week at Forest Grove Elementary, and two (2) days per a week at both Mile 108 Elementary and Horse Lake Elementary.

Rate of Pay: Level 1: 29.68

Level 2: 32.95

Threshold Qualifications:

  • A diploma in post-secondary Social Service Worker program

  • Certified Lifeskills Coach

  • Experience working with troubled youth

  • Crisis intervention skills

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to travel within the local community

  • Ability to work closely with teachers and administration

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and awareness of addiction issues

  • Demonstrated successful experience working with at-risk youth

  • Knowledge and awareness of helping community services

  • Experience liaising with Social Services, Mental Health, Probation and Public Health

  • Conflict resolution and mediation skills

Duties Include, but are not limited to:

  • Work in the alternate classroom, in regular classrooms, at lunch or before/ after school based on student needs in collaboration with the teacher and under the direction of the Principal or Director of Instruction

  • Interact with students in a non-judgemental, intentional, goal oriented way

  • Connect students to appropriate supports in the school and in the community whenever necessary

  • Help students network to build support in their community

  • Network and collaborate with community partners to share resources and community events

  • Act as a liaison between students, families, community and school

  • Provide educational resources around mental health, sexual health and drug prevention

  • Collaborate with teachers to build and support the behaviour plan and goals for the student (Student's personal profile)

  • Support and model appropriate school behaviours as defined by the school's Code of Conduct and/ or matrix

  • Support the students with all their learning needs in the classroom (educational, social, emotional)

  • Other duties as assigned
