New Westminster Schools Career Opportunity CASUAL EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATOR (ECE) Job Function:
  • Report to the school principal or Manager of Early Learning and Child Care as assigned.
  • In child care settings, work independently with a pedagogy of listening to observe, reflect, dialogue, document, guide learning, plan and implement curriculum.
  • In Kindergarten to Grade 3 settings, collaborate with the classroom teacher to create learning settings that are inclusive, as stated in the Early Learning Framework, where each child brings their context, gifts, capabilities and potential and who is nurtured with responsive practices and environments.
  • Work in support of children typically ages 3 to 8 years old.
  • Provide supervision to children as assigned.
  • Support children with learning, intellectual, and physical disabilities, advanced health, safety, and nutrition, and program planning.
  • Show sensitivity to multiple and diverse ways of learning and being.
  • Provide personal care assistance to children who require it.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information seen or heard.
  • Understand and act in accordance with relevant policies and procedures from the school, school district, Ministry of Education and Child Care, Child Care Licensing Regulation, and WorkSafeBC.
  • Establish positive working relationships with school staff, community partners, families, and children.
  • Attend meetings as requested.
  • Complete ongoing professional development and maintain ECE Certificate to Practice.
  • Work within District commitments to equity, anti-racism, diversity, and inclusion.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
  • Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE, IT, SNE), 2 year program
  • Valid Emergency Child Care First Aid certificate.
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check.
  • Minimum 3 years experience working in early years programs.
  • Understanding of the ethics of Early Childhood Education as described in the ECEBC Code of Ethics.
  • Actively practicing with a pedagogy of listening as described in the Early Learning Framework.
  • Knowledge of Truth and Reconciliation and its application in Early Years settings and a commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action.
Hours of Work & Salary Vary According to Program.
  • Seamless Day Child Care:
    • Morning shift 6:30am to 12:45pm (5.75 hours per day)
    • Afternoon shift 12:15pm to 6:15pm (5.5 hours per day)
    • Monday – Friday, while school school is in session
    • ECE Rate = $33.53/hour
  • Just B4 Preschool
    • 11:00am to 3:00pm (4 hours per day)
    • ECE Rate = $33.53/hour
  • StrongStart (Play-based early learning program, parent participation)
    • 8:00am to 12:00pm (4 hours per day), Queensborough Middle School location
    • 8:30am to 12:30pm (4 hours per day), Connaught Heights Elementary location
    • 8:45am to 12:45pm (4 hours per day), Skwo:wech Elementary location
    • StrongStart rate = $31.91/hour
