Are you interested in a rewarding career supporting K to Grade 12 students in public schools? Qualified Special Education Assistants (SEAs) are in high demand and there are many opportunities in our growing community. Working with a team in a supportive environment, SEAs build strong connections with students to enhance their academic and social/emotional growth and independence.
SEAs work collaboratively with teachers and other professionals and para-professionals assisting with implementation of individual education programs, learning and behavioral support, personal care and a variety of other duties. Once hired as casual employees, SEAs can apply as internal applicants to posted positions. Successful applicants will be members of CUPE Local 1260.
We hire Special Education Assistants who have completed certificate programs at the following institutes:
•Kwantlen Polytechnic
•Surrey College
•Stenberg College
•Delta DTAC Program
•Douglas College
•Langara College
We will consider applications from individuals who have completed Special Education Assistant programs elsewhere and have SEA school-based experience.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to interact with the students in an effective manner.
Ability to communicate effectively using tact, discretion and diplomacy in contacts of a difficult or specialized nature.
Ability to determine, judge and select appropriate course of action within limits of established methods and procedures.
Working knowledge of behaviour management techniques and task analysis techniques.
Basic knowledge of computers.
Physical ability to perform the required duties.
