FRENCH IMMERSION TEACHERS:
ELEMENTARY – Primary (grades 1-3) and Intermediate (grades 4-7)
SECONDARY – (Grades 8 -12)
Burnaby School District invites applications from qualified French Immersion teachers effective immediately.
Required Qualifications:
(Elementary):
• a Bachelor of Education degree or academic equivalent
• a demonstrated fluency and facility (both oral and written) in French and English
• a French Immersion methodology course
• a major program concentration in the relevant area of primary or intermediate education including primary or intermediate methodology courses
(Secondary):
• a Bachelor of Education degree or academic equivalent
• a demonstrated fluency and facility (both oral and written) in French and English
• a subject speciality methodology course
Additional required qualifications for both Elementary and Secondary:
• valid BC Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
• member of the Ministry of Education Teacher Regulation Branch (or eligible for)
• successful completion of Criminal Records Search as carried out through the Ministry of Education Teachers’ Regulation Branch
• a knowledge of a broad range of effective instructional strategies in order to meet the diverse needs of all students
• a knowledge of consultative and collaborative strategies
• recent successful, substantive teaching or practica experience in the relevant subject area
Job Duties:
• plan and implement the re-designed BC Curriculum
• communicate with students and parents/guardians
• work with colleagues as part of a collaborative team
• use assessment, diagnosis and intervention techniques for students who experience learning difficulties in French Immersion
Location(s):
The location you work at will be dependent on where the vacancy is within the District.
We have 10 Elementary schools that teach French Immersion: Armstrong; Aubrey, Brantford, Capitol Hill, Cascade Heights, Inman, Marlborough, Seaforth, Sperling and Westridge.
We also have 3 Secondary schools that teach French Immersion: Alpha, Cariboo Hill and Moscrop.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary Range: $47,016.00 to $85,712.00 per annum based on Teachers’ Salary Grid
Salary scale will be determined by years of experience as per the Teachers’ Provincial Collective Agreement.
Once hired, there will be an opportunity to sign up for benefits as per the Teachers’ Provincial Collective Agreement. How much you pay for your benefits will be determined by the position you have and the fte (full time equivalent) assignment you are working.
