Commencement Date:
September 1, 2025, to June 19, 2026 or upon return of incumbent.
This position will serve our three in-town elementary schools, approximately 350 students. Scheduling between the schools will be determined in coordination with the three elementary principals; with a requirement to adjust schedules as needed to address emergent issues.
The starting annual salary for this part time elementary school counsellor ranges from $65, 000, to $108,000, with placement on then range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement.
Qualifications:
- Valid BC Teaching certificate.
- Teaching experience.
- A Master's degree in Counselling Psychology, Educational Psychology, or equivalent.
- Completion of a supervised counselling practicum.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing direct counselling services to children, as well as individual, group, or family counselling to referred students where appropriate.
- Working with school administration and classroom teachers to support healthy classroom environments.
- Working in conjunction with parents, caregivers, and outside agencies for the welfare of children.
- Attendance at weekly school-based team meetings to support students on their caseload, be aware of priority students in the schools, and serve as a source of expertise on social-emotional supports and student well-being.
- Case management for students with H and R designations, which includes:
- Development and updating of student IEP's.
- Organizing and leading IEP meetings with school staff and families.
- Reporting on student goals.
- Coordinating and working in cooperation with classroom teachers, support staff, the school-based team, and parents/caregivers to help students flourish and be successful at school.
- Helping staff to design and implement specific student plans and interventions.
- Maintaining an appropriate and confidential system of student records
- Participate in Behavioural and Digital Threat Assessments/Violence and Threat Assessments as needed
