High School Learning Strategies Teacher [Full time (1.0 FTE)]

Starting Date: End of August 2024

Who we are:

King David High School is a top-rated, independent school in central Vancouver with memberships in ISABC and CAIS. Our staff come from all walks of life and backgrounds – we value diversity. King David staff members enjoy working in a fun, caring, warm, supportive, collegial environment where we collaborate to ensure our students reach their potential. King David nurtures a Jewish culture characterized by a shared tradition, a common dedication to social justice, and a love for learning.

About the position:

We are looking for a dedicated, dynamic, and informed teacher to join our school family. The successful candidate will have the ability to use their combined knowledge and experience to support students with diverse needs in our Learning Strategies program. We are looking for a teacher who will work well as a part of a team to develop and implement competency-based Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Student Support Plans (SSPs) while caring for and supporting students’ emotional well-being and development. You will balance your time between IEP / SSP development, communication with students, parents, teachers, and administrators, and working directly with students on their goals and coursework. King David is a young and growing school with approximately 260 students, about one-quarter of whom receive targeted support (including IEPs, SSPs, or other interventions).

The successful candidate will have a combination of background experience, education, and professional development related to working with students who have diverse learning needs, mental health challenges, physical disabilities, and/or medical issues. We are looking for candidates who truly want to use their passion to make a difference in the lives of our students. You must value diversity as it relates to all people, including aspects of identity, and have respect for indigenous traditions and ways of knowing. We also want you to know that you will be a valued and cared-for member of our school team.

Requirements for the position:

  • Be certified to teach in British Columbia

  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree

  • Demonstrated competence in senior math and sciences

  • Background experience and/or education related to IEPs and the BC Ministry of Education Special Education policies and documentation requirements

  • A documented ability to teach students with diverse needs with kindness and flexibility to support their learning

  • An ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and appropriately with students, parents, teachers, and administrators

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills and the ability to teach them to others

  • A desire to always improve one’s teaching practice and the learning experience for students

Why work at King David:

  • King David staff enjoy working in a warm, welcoming, modern and collegial environment

  • Professional development is supported, both in and out of school, through conference attendance or course and workshop participation

  • We encourage teachers to develop new courses, clubs, teams, and other student opportunities

  • We are learning together to develop a student-centered learning environment in all classes as we emphasize being at the forefront of creating an innovative learning experience for all our students

  • We have an enthusiastic, motivated, and engaged staff with an administration that is committed to creating a safe, positive work environment

  • We offer a comprehensive compensation package with salaries well above local public schools, extended health benefits, RRSP pension matching, and other perks
