Executive Director, Human Resources
Surrey Schools reside on the traditional, unceded, and shared territories of Coast Salish peoples: The q̓íc̓əy̓ - Katzie, the q̓ʷa:n̓ƛ̓ən̓ - Kwantlen and the SEMYOME - Semiahmoo First Nations: the stewards of this land since time immemorial. They highlight this history knowing that relationships and partnerships based on respect for the Indigenous peoples of this land are important for truth and reconciliation.
The Surrey School District (“Surrey Schools”) fulfills its vision for learning on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Katzie, Kwantlen, Semiahmoo, and other Coast Salish Peoples. Surrey Schools’ role as a school district on unceded territory means that in all their actions they must foreground their commitment to reconciliation with Indigenous peoples. The Surrey School District is the largest in British Columbia with over 78,000 students, 13,000 employees, including more than 6,500 teachers, and an annual operating and capital budget of over $960 million. Typically growing by approximately 1,000 students per year, Surrey Schools is dedicated to its vision for learning: Learning by Design, which believes that teachers are the designers of engaging and inclusive learning environments that serve all children.
With a pending retirement, the District now seeks a new Executive Director, Human Resources (“ED”). Reporting to the Superintendent/CEO, the ED is a member of the senior management team and leads a department of 45 employees, the ED helps advance the District’s mission and operations through human resource leadership, innovation, and service excellence. The ED wholly develops and owns the human resource strategic plan and provides leadership and vision for all areas of human resource and labour relations management including staffing, classification, recruitment, retention, succession planning, evaluation, contract negotiation, union relations, wellness, health services, dispatch, conduct and health and safety.
The ED will work closely with the Superintendent/CEO and other senior leadership to develop strategies that support an engaged working environment and promote a culture that values employees and fosters best practices in human resources.
