Job Summary & Responsibilities

Elementary Counsellors are a part of the larger District Learning Support Services team. Working in itinerant positions, they support multiple elementary schools across the district. Generally speaking, our Elementary Counsellors provide ongoing emotional, social and behavioral support for identified students, participate with School Based Teams and integrated care teams, liaise with district and community agencies, and support parents and families of identified students either directly support or through referral to community agencies.

The schedule for this temporary part-time position (2 days/week) will be determined.

Education & Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Counselling with a counselling practicum relevant to the school environment
  • Experience as a school counsellor at the Elementary Level
  • Training in violence, threat, risk assessment (VTRA) Successfully complete and maintain non-violent crisis intervention certification
  • Eligible for B.C. Certification
  • Satisfactory teacher evaluation and/or final practicum reports

  • Assessment & Coaching: Utilize balanced assessment and feedback to improve student learning including the use of formative and summative assessment strategies.
  • Collaboration & Teamwork: Collaborate with others to achieve group goals and objectives
  • Caring & Inclusiveness: Create and maintain an environment that is caring, inclusive and supportive of all students
  • Flexibility & Adaptability: Demonstrate flexibility in the ability to adjust and adapt to changing circumstances
