The Catholic Independent Schools of the Diocese of Nelson (CISND), hosts six elementary schools, and one high school. The diocese is located in the beautiful Okanagan and Kootenay regions of British Columbia. Principal – St. Mary’s Elementary School, Cranbrook, BC

St. Mary’s Elementary School is a well-established school in the beautiful Kootenays, in Cranbrook BC, with enrollment upwards of 100 students. We gratefully acknowledge our existence on the traditional lands of the Ktunaxa Nation. Providing a safe and caring learning community, students are truly nurtured and challenged to develop academically, spiritually, emotionally and physically. Students and staff are immersed in an atmosphere that models good citizenship, connection and extensive leadership opportunities. We are seeking a passionate and experienced individual to take the lead as Principal . The Principal is supported by a team of committed educators united by a common goal where each student is known by all staff and welcomed daily, building a solid foundation in preparation for middle years and beyond.

The Principal has a critical role to play in the growth of life in this Catholic school community, working collaboratively with the St. Mary’s School Council and actively shaping the daily culture. The successful candidate will act as a mentor to staff, encouraging professional development and providing thoughtful evaluations with concern for the well-being of staff. The principal is also responsible, under the supervision of the CISND Superintendent, to ensure compliance with Ministry of Education requirements to maintain Independent School qualifications. Our successful candidate is expected to have demonstrated commitment to truth and reconciliation and strong values regarding inclusion and building relationships with students and families.

Preference will be given to candidates who:

• Exhibit commitment and vision with regard to leadership in Catholic Education
• Actively participate in the Catholic parish community
• Hold a Master’s Degree in a relevant educational field of study (or intend to/have commenced these studies)
• Have previous successful Administrative leadership experience in a Catholic School
• Have successful classroom teaching experience

Our successful candidate will:

• Have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, fostering positive relationships with staff and families
• Strong emotional intelligence, guiding through nurturing leadership and example
• Strategic vision and execution
• A valid BC Teacher certificate (or ability to obtain one)
• Be adaptable to the shifting needs of today’s education system and experienced using innovative teaching methods in primary and intermediate classrooms
• Ability to use discretion when dealing with confidential matters

As a condition of employment, successful candidates must complete Diocesan Safe Environment training and will be required to submit the following:

• Certified statement(s) of previous teaching experience
• Photocopy of Canadian Birth Certificate or Canadian Passport (documentation indicating you are legally entitled to work in Canada)
• Social Insurance Number
• Photocopy of Driver’s Licence
