Pacific Academy is seeking applications from qualified individuals for a School Counsellor position commencing August 22, 2024.
The School Counsellor is expected to:
- Work collaboratively with students, their families, teachers, administrators, and community agencies to develop effective strategies in promoting the educational, social, emotional development of students;
- Act as an advocate for children and their families;
- Participate as an active member of the School-Based-Team;
- Provide direct counseling and/or intervention to students to support mental health and wellbeing;
- Collaborate with Teachers, fellow Counsellors, school Psychologist and school staff to provide supports and effective strategies in promoting safe, caring, and healthy school environments;
- Be familiar with the Ministry of Education and Childcare Special Education Manual of Policies, Procedures and Guidelines manual;
- Case manage/oversee IEPs for H & R designated students;
- Assist with Level B testing, conduct risk assessment and behavioural screening tools with students as required;
- Support social emotional learning (SEL) in classrooms through consultation, collaboration and direct in-class teaching;
- Work with School-Based Team to create safety plans;
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Successful candidates should:
- Have a master's degree in counselling psychology or a related discipline with a focus on counselling. Membership in the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) and /or being a Registered Clinical Counselor (RCC) is preferred;
- Have teaching and/or counselling experience;
- Possess professional teaching certification;
- Have an understanding of and commitment to Christian Education;
- Actively and personally support a Pentecostal/Charismatic statement of faith;
- Be an active member in a local church;
- Be a team player;
- Have excellent communication skills;
- Possess the technical skills commensurate with the position.
