We invite applications for the temporary position of:

  • 1.0 FTE Grades 10-12 Online Learning Counsellor
  • Subject to enrollment

Navigate secondary counsellors support students and families in co-creating personalized, successful pathways to graduation by offering support and advice to students, families, and teaching colleagues throughout the province. This includes:

  • Creating, maintaining, and revising personalized education plans / graduation plans for each full-time online and blended learning student.
  • Supporting cross-enrolled students and the teaching team from their homeschool throughout the province

This role requires a high level of comfort with the use of technology. Preference will go to candidates with prior successful asynchronous online counselling experience.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Master's Degree in educational counselling, psychology or related field (must include a 300-hour supervised school-based practicum at the appropriate level)
  • Experience in counselling at the required level
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Recent training and successful experience in suicide prevention
  • Experience and commitment to working collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary student support team
  • Experience implementing communication protocols for working with teachers, para-professionals, administrators, parents and students

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Experience working with the Handbook of Procedures from the Ministry of Education, including evaluating external credits, equivalency, challenges, manual submission to TRAX
  • A working knowledge of current graduation pathways and their requirements
  • Experience counselling students on post-secondary options
  • Experience liaising with teachers, counsellors, and administrators, locally and provincially, regarding program needs and Individual Learning Plan needs
  • An exemplary track record of supportive communication with students, families, and colleagues
  • Ability to support students with course adaptations and I.E.P.s, in consultation with other teaching staff
  • Ability to utilize the following online tools: My Education BC, D2L/ Bright Space (or equivalent online learning management system), student registration software (Narwhal or equivalent)
  • An understanding and commitment to the professional standards of online learning in BC

Preference will be given to candidates who have:

  • Experience co-creating and maintaining graduation plans for school age and non-graduated adults in an online and blended learning environment, including course programming year-round.
  • Experience working with and supporting students and families in an online / remote environment
  • Experience working with adult students (upgrading and on the adult graduation pathway)
  • Ability to manage on-line courses and resources incorporating current provincial wide resources in post-secondary options, provincial assessments, scholarships & bursaries, and mental health information and resources
