About this Role
This combined position of Teacher Assistant, Lunch Supervision Aide, and After School Care Supervision starts as Teacher Assistant from 9:00am until 2:45pm when After School Care runs until 5:30pm. Working days will be those when the students are in attendance including two days before the start of school for set-up and two days at the end of the school year for clean-up. The Teacher Assistant is responsible for providing assistance to the teacher and the students in the development of strategies to achieve academic, behavioural, and social goals. Teacher assistants support students, and assist teachers with teaching and non-instructional tasks. They assist in areas of personal care, teaching, and behaviour management working alongside the teachers.
After School Care Program Responsibilities:

Oversee and coordinate the After School Care Program at the Junior School from 2:45pm to 5:30pm Monday to Friday on days when school is in session

Work collaboratively with the other two ASC supervisors and the ASC Manager

Provide a safe, welcoming, and fun environment for students ranging from grades 1 to 6

Prepare and plan for activities daily

Meet the requirements of the YHS Junior School ASC childcare license

Supervise student lunch and/or recess inside and outside

Supervise other student activities as needed
Teacher Assistant Responsibilities:

Reinforces concepts introduced by the teacher and supports instructional programs designed by the teacher

Maintains regular communications with the teacher and other team members and other relevant staff

Supports the delivery of assessments such as Words Their Way, DIBELS, and PM Benchmarking

Help students individually or in small groups with activities

Supervises student(s) both on and off the school campus as required

Operates standard school and office equipment including personal computer applications, instructional aid communications, and special individualized equipment

May carry out emergency procedures

Performs other related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Collaborative and flexible team-player

Knowledge of the current research on girls and learning

Strong interpersonal, organizational, time-management and communication skills

Demonstrated ability to engage in a collegial and supportive manner.

Able to provide care and mature guidance to children

Have relevant work experience

Early Childhood Certification or Responsible Adult Training is an asset

Current First Aid Certification

Food Safe Certification
-
19 years of age or over
