TEMPORARY JOB POSTING
DISTRICT LEARNER SUPPORT CENTRE
.40 FTE TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENT
DISTRICT ELEMENTARY COUNSELLOR
EFFECTIVE: September 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023
The successful candidate will:
- Have a valid teaching certificate for the Province of British Columbia and proof of current membership in the BC College of Teachers
- Have a graduate degree in counselling
- Have recent successful experience as a counsellor
- Have recent successful teaching experience
- Have documented excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal and collaborative skills
- Have experience in working with children and adolescents with social-emotional challenges
- Have a willingness to work in a supportive and cooperative manner with existing school and district personnel in the delivery of a comprehensive counselling program at the elementary level
- Have experience in developing I.E.P’s and behavior support plans for students exhibiting emotional and behavioral challenges
- The ability to complete functional behavioral assessments would be an asset
- Have experience in teaching social skills and social-emotional wellbeing lessons to elementary age students
- Be skilled in providing in-service for staff on counselling strategies related to the classroom
- Embed the First Nations Principles of Learning in all subject areas
- Be committed to and practice the philosophy of inclusion
- Be committed to working as a cooperative, collaborative member of a school wide instructional team and attend meetings as required
- Be committed to consultation, parent conferences, and positive home/school/community liaison
- Possess a valid driver’s license; travel throughout the district is a requirement
- Have an exemplary driving record as demonstrated by a current driver’s abstract
