 Indigenous Education Teacher

September 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022

  *1.0 FTE - Full-Time Temporary with Benefits*

Indigenous Education Teachers (IET) are non-enrolling district teachers who report directly to the District Principal of Indigenous Education. They will be assigned to provide support to identified students at one or more schools. In consultation with the Indigenous Education Consultant, the IET will play a lead role in schools in planning, developing and monitoring programs that support success for Indigenous learners and the achievement of goals in the Aboriginal Education Enhancement Agreement. The IET will work closely with the Indigenous Education Workers in support of student success and in the promotion of Aboriginal cultural and traditional knowledge within the district. They will also be responsible for monitoring and maintaining records of Indigenous student achievement and supporting all students within their assignment around successful grade-to-grade transitions and in meeting graduation requirements. 

 *The VBE has been given approval from the Human Rights Tribunal for a Special Program under s. 42(3) of the Human Rights Code.  Under this special program, the VBE seeks to preferentially hire Indigenous persons to a variety of teaching positions.  Therefore, each applicant may wish to provide, on a voluntary basis, information whether she or he self-identifies as an Indigenous person.*
