POSITION DESCRIPTION:
K-GRADE 3 PE TEACHER,  (TEMPORARY FULL-TIME, 1 YEAR MATERNITY LEAVE COVERAGE)
We invite applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) temporary position of PYP Kindergarten-Grade 3 PE Teacher for the 2022-23 school year. The successful candidate must be available to attend Southridge Faculty Orientation Days, starting on August 26, 2022.

PRIMARY DUITES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop positive relationships with students that instill a sense of belonging and connection
• Nurture and model a love of lifelong physical fitness and personal wellness
• Collaboratively plan PE units of inquiry that promote physical activity and literacy and skill development, support the development of the IB Learner Profile, IB Approaches to Learning and Teaching, and align with the BC Physical and Health Education Curriculum
• Collaborate with other grade-level and specialist subject teachers to enhance transdisciplinary teaching and learning within the PYP Programme of Inquiry
• Implement clear and consistent gym safety routines and the proper use of PE equipment
• Explicitly model and nurture the development of fair and respectful gameplay through learning and teaching in PE classes and co-curricular coaching
• Use a standards-based approach to assess and report on students' physical literacy, sport-specific skill development, and participation in the PE program
• Support the athletic co-curricular program of the school, under the direction of the Junior School Athletics Director, including coaching two competitive teams and supporting other athletic initiatives and school-based athletic and special events
• Engage in homeroom partnership responsibilities with a PYP grade-level teaching team
• Maintain ongoing communication with parents as partners in their child’s learning journey
• Engage in strategically aligned professional growth, learning, and development that positively impact student success
• Attend and participate in core school functions and special events
• Additional duties and responsibilities as outlined in the Southridge Faculty Handbook

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor of Education - Physical Education specialty at the Primary/Elementary level
• Valid BC Teaching certificate
• First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain a First Aid Certificate)
• Experience teaching PE at the elementary school (K-7) level
• A proven understanding of children's physical and social-emotional developmental needs at the elementary (K-7) level, with a teaching focus in early primary (K-3)
• Experience coaching team sports with students in Grades 4-7 (e.g. volleyball, soccer, basketball, ultimate frisbee)
• Proven ability to collaborate with colleagues in shared planning and decision making that aligns with school-based strategic goals and initiatives
• International Baccalaureate PYP Professional Development and/or experience in an IB PYP is an asset
• Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills that nurture strong connections with colleagues, students, and families
• A willingness to embrace the Southridge mission, vision, and values
