BUYER
Under the Direction of the Secretary Treasurer or designate, the Buyer provides complex clerical support and routine purchasing activities for the district.
Job Function:
- Co-ordinates a computerized tendering system for the district; processes tenders by determining specifications, identifying vendors, setting closing dates, distributing tenders, and receiving/opening bids; analyses and evaluates a verity of bids and quotations; determines the most appropriate supplier and awards the order.
- Contacts suppliers to obtain information, to update and renegotiate service/repair contracts, to resolve problems with purchasing contracts or to expedite goods and services
- Creates and updates supply lists in conjunction with schools and district personnel; processes requisition forms received from individual schools and staff members; processes purchase orders
- Maintains controls to ensure that only legitimate expenditures and commitments are made on behalf of the district
- Keep up-to-date on market conditions, price trends, and brings unusual matters of developing price trends to the attention of supervisor with supporting analysis and recommendations
- Maintains varied records of purchasing statistics, descriptive lists, work-in-progress, schedules and completed files
- Responsible for the establishment, control and maintenance of district contracts.
- Performs other comparable duties that are within the area of knowledge and skills required of the job
Qualifications:
- Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by Level 1 Purchasing Management Association of Canada Program and or equivalent post-secondary training and experience
- Good knowledge of modern purchasing methods and principals, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Ability to evaluate quality, price and suitability of goods
- Candidates must possess sound judgement, independent decision-making, problem solving and strong communication skills
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- One (1) year experience as a Purchasing Clerk
Salary
In accordance with SD40/CUPE 409 Collective Agreement, Schedule A. Currently $32.47 per hour.
Hours of Work:
35 hours per week, Monday to Friday
This is a temporary position, starting immediately and ending November 30, 2022 or upon return of incumbent.
