WHO WE ARE
From
coastal beaches to mountain forests, North Vancouver School District – “the
natural place to learn” – provides world-class instruction and a rich diversity
of engaging programs to inspire success for every student. Our 25
elementary and 7 secondary schools, 2600 staff and 16,000 students
offer a safe and nurturing environment based on trust, respect, responsibility
and collaboration. We are looking for enthusiastic and positive individuals to
learn, share and grow with us in “the natural place to work”.
THE ROLE
As a crossing guard with a keen
knowledge of traffic safety and the ability to build trust with—and command
respect from—those under your care, you will maintain order and safety in and
around your assigned crosswalk. As you model and reinforce proper behaviour and
adherence to safety rules, you will also be responsible for reporting driver
infractions and any unusual or strange behaviour you observe among students and
adults. You will be expected to attend yearly training sessions on traffic
safety and may be called on to supervise students on school property and help
out with simple office duties such as filing or answering the phone.
WHAT WE REQUIRE
Along with the above capabilities, you
are physically able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and know how to
build successful relationships, influence behaviour and avert or resolve
conflict thanks to your experience either raising or working with children.
This is a casual, on-call, unionized
position and the current rate of pay is $17.52 per
hour, plus 14% in lieu of benefits.
All candidates are required to submit
to a BC Ministry Criminal Record Check and a local Police Criminal Record Check
as condition of employment.
