We invite applications for the position of:
- Education Assistant: Complex - Autism/AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication), 26.25 hours per week, Monday through Friday. The current rate of pay is $26.46 per hour plus 15.5% in lieu of benefits.

Qualifications:
- Grade 12 education supplemented by Human Services Worker program certificate; training in the use of communication systems such as LAMP Words for Life, Touch Chat Word Power and Speak for Yourself is required. Formal training through Provincial Outreach Programs as POPARD or POPFASD, or other approved Institutions; and a valid Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certificate are required; recent experience supporting students with complex needs such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, and a variety of diverse learning, behavioural and intellectual needs; fluent in modeling language on communication systems at a child's level; commitment to the pursuit of continual learning in communication systems; ability to work effectively with staff and students; willingness to work in an inclusionary setting supporting differentiated instruction with adapted and modified curriculum; valid Class 5 B.C. driver's license and license appropriate to the type of equipment/vehicle being operated and a personal vehicle available for use on the job is preferred; meets the physical requirements of the position; ability to work independently and as a member of a team; excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Duties are performed under the supervision of the school Principal, Vice Principal and the Principal of Inclusive Education or designate. Follows the guidance and leadership of the Learning Support, AAC SLP, and classroom teachers; provides support to an individual student in multiple settings as assigned by the Director of Inclusive Education or designate and may be required to provide support to other students with special needs as requested by the site Principal or Vice Principal; provides support for classroom instruction, activities of daily living, and behavioural support for low incidence students in accordance with the individual education plan. Carries out personal and health care routines as directed; follows the AAC Student Learning Plan to support over-reaching communication goals; provides information to school-based team, itinerant staff or relevant agency personnel as requested by School/Program Leaders; facilitates inclusion of students with special needs into class and school activities; assists students in off-site program activities as required; participates in student observation, data collection and implementation of the individual education and behaviour plans; follows proper work procedures, observes all regulations pertinent to the work, maintains a good working relationship with other employees, and cooperates in maintaining a healthy learning and working environment; performs other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor; student supervision as required by the Principal or Vice Principal.
