PRIMARY TEACHER
Full-time (1.0 FTE) position
West Bay World IB School
Effective September 6, 2022 until December 16, 2022
Required Qualifications and Experience
This position replaces a teacher on a leave of absence. The successful applicant for this position must have:
- A clear understanding of the characteristics of the primary student and the ability to develop a positive learning environment addressing the intellectual, physical and emotional needs of this age group, preferably in an IB PYP classroom
- be willing to attend on-going training and professional development for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program;
- be willing to collaboratively plan units of inquiry to be taught through a guided inquiry approach.
- Demonstrated ability and experience to teach, assess and plan a primary program
- Strong interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills and proven ability, commitment and drive to work co-operatively and effectively with other educators in a collegial team setting
- Knowledge and experience in working with Special Needs students and support staff with a focus on differentiated instruction in the classroom and demonstrated ability to meet the needs of a diverse group of learners through a broad array of teaching strategies
- Knowledge and experience in adapting learning objectives and strategies to meet the needs of English Language Learners at varying levels
- Experience and a clear understanding of social and emotional learning and self-regulation
- Knowledge and proven experience in the area of technology (the ability to integrate various technologies into the curriculum, modes of assessment, and its use for student adaptations)
- The ability to use formative assessment practices to improve student achievement with emphasis on the BC Curriculum and web-based platforms
- Effective classroom management skills that are student centered and focus on relationships and authentic connections
- A strong commitment to positive and consistent engagement and communication with parents and other stakeholders
