Sunrise Waldorf School (SWS) is a
full AWSNA member school and a Group One independent school under the BC
Ministry of Education with a mission to educate and inspire students to
reach their full potential through a rich and artistic Waldorf
curriculum. We offer a comprehensive Waldorf curriculum from Preschool
through Grade Eight. Special subjects include French, Handwork,
Woodwork, PE, and Strings.
Established in 1980, our 7-acre rural campus is located in the
Cowichan Valley, 45 minutes north of Victoria on Vancouver Island. SWS
is part of a vibrant island community, abundant with arts, surrounded by
organic farms and endless outdoor adventures. Most of the families at
SWS have moved to the Cowichan Valley from all over the world to attend
SWS.
Our teacher’s salary is based on the level of education and years of
experience and ranges from $42,550 to $59,560 for grades teachers and
from $32,825 to $48,005 for handwork.

Responsibilities include lesson planning and classroom preparation;
teaching Main Lesson daily and additional track classes; report writing;
attending regular department and faculty meetings; participation in
festivals and recitals; communication with parents.
Lower grades Teacher (full and/or part-time)
Sunrise Waldorf School is currently accepting applications for a
class teacher in our lower school for the 2022/23 school year.

Woodwork Teacher (full or part time)
Sunrise Waldorf School is accepting applications for a full or part-time
Woodwork Teacher. The successful candidate will introduce
and execute woodwork lessons for the classes following Waldorf
curriculum guidelines (including planning, teaching, assessing, and
reporting). The ideal candidate will have strong classroom management
skills, teaching skills that nurture and develop the capacities in
children, and a love for working with children.
Education & Experience Required for Teachers
The ideal candidate will have completed Waldorf training and have
teaching experience in a Waldorf school, as well as a history of strong
classroom management and the ability to maintain professional
relationships with parents, faculty and staff. We will also support
trained teachers without Waldorf experience to obtain their Waldorf
teacher training during school breaks. Our faculty is looking for a
colleague who will enthusiastically join their collaborative work with
our Principal.
A spiritual dimension in Waldorf education is present in the culture
and environment of the school, although no particular religious or
spiritual beliefs are prescribed. Parents and teachers of various
religious and spiritual perspectives and ethical philosophies are
involved in Waldorf education. They do so knowing that Waldorf schools
are based on a spiritual view of the human being and of the world.
All applicants must be able to receive a BC teaching certificate
(requiring either a B.Ed. or a B.A. and Waldorf teacher training) or a
Letter of Permission while pursuing certification, and all applicants
must have Canadian citizenship or permanent residency.
