T2022-525: Mental Health Clinician – School Liaison

The Burnaby School District is on the traditional territory of the Coast Salish Nations of Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh and Squamish.  

The Burnaby School District is the fourth largest in BC. The District operates 41 elementary and 8 secondary schools, including a range of district and provincial resource programs.  The District supports and provides learning to 25,000 Kindergarten to Grade 12 (K-12) students and to more than 6,000 adult learners through our established Burnaby Community & Continuing Education program. With more than 100 languages spoken in the homes of its students, the District is one of the most culturally diverse in Canada.

The Burnaby School District is seeking a full time (1.00FTE) Mental Health Clinician – School Liaison effective

October 2022 to June 30, 2023.

JOB SUMMARY:

Develops, implements and supports the advancement of Mental Health Literacy in a K-12 school setting with the goal of increasing the capacity of school staff to better identify, triage and access support for children, youth and families struggling with mental health concerns.

Develops, implements and adjusts individualized treatment plans for children and youth with mental health issues; establishes trust with youth and engages them at their level of readiness for change. Provides screening and referral services including psychoeducation, family sessions and parent groups; determines appropriateness of request, client eligibility and availability of resources.

Collaborates and consults with CYMH colleagues, school personnel and others, attends and participates in meetings, develops linkages with other facilities, agencies and support groups, and participates in quality improvement initiatives. A good communicator who takes initiative in responding to community needs with minimal direction.
