Vision Resource Teacher

Inclusive Education

Part-time (0.4 FTE) position

Effective September 6, 2022 until June 30, 2023

 

Required Qualifications and Experience

 

This itinerant position is responsible for supporting students who have visual impairments throughout the district. The successful teacher must have or demonstrate the following:

 

• Master's degree in Education with a concentration in Blindness and Visual Impairment
• Valid B.C. Teaching Certificate;
• Strong interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills;
• Expertise in a wide range of teaching and management strategies appropriate to the needs of visually impaired students;
• Knowledge of methods for evaluating and selecting instructional materials suitable for students with any degree of visual impairment;
• Ability to carry out a variety of assessments, including classroom observation, curriculum-based assessment and diagnostic teaching methods, administration and interpretation of norm-referenced assessment instruments to Level B;
• Ability to develop and/or contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of an IEP in consultation with classroom teacher(s), parents, students and district and community resource personnel;
• Determine and support appropriate goals and specific objectives in skill areas including visual skills, speech, written and spoken language, and self -advocacy.
• Provide academic support as needed
• Ensure appropriate and adequate support for students and their classroom teachers and other school personnel
