The Quesnel School District is currently seeking applications for a temporary Network Specialist. Successful applicants would become members of CUPE Local 4990.
The Network Specialist installs, supports and maintains computer systems, networks and equipment for on and off-site computer operations. Provides user support, development and training for the District’s computer systems applications and report processing.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, ABILITY AND SKILLS:
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- A two-year college diploma in computer technology or four (4) years equivalent industry work experience.
- A minimum of 2 years relevant I.T. industry experience.
- A thorough knowledge of Microsoft Windows servers and workstations
- The ability to communicate with non-technical users.
- Ability to work both independently and as a team player.
- A clean driving record
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides technical support for the District’s Local and Wide Area Networks, including design, installation, administration and maintenance.
- Installs and provides diagnostic and preventative maintenance and repairs on computer hardware, related peripherals and network infrastructure.
- Researches, evaluates, installs, configures, troubleshoots, tests, monitors and supports district network servers, including but not limited to Application Servers, Web Servers, FTP servers and Proxy Servers.
- Prepares technical documentation such as instructions, procedures and user manuals.
- Provides technical advise to the schools and Distict staff as part of a team responsible for evaluation, planning, and implementation of computer technology.
- Assists in the assurance of data integrity and security of confidential information throughout the District, including student demographics, financial data and employee records.
- Analyzes security policies, issues and concerns and provides timely cost-effective solutions including firewalls, anti-virus, user rights and disaster recovery.
- Writes custom script applications using various programming languages.
- Creates scripted batch files to perform various tasks, such as logon scripts, backups and user administration.
- Provides direct support to District staff (administrative, teaching and support) using the most effective methods by remote desktop, email, phone or onsite visit.
- Provides District-wide support and administration for mission-critical software, including library automation and database software, the student information system, financial accounting and payroll, HRIS, email and communication services.
