Adult Crossing Guard
A casual position with deep impact on student safety
Promoting academic, social and personal development; honouring diversity; encouraging equity and practicing democratic governance—these are the principles that guide our organization every day. With the wide variety of programs we offer across 32 schools, every one of our almost 16,000 students is given an opportunity for success.
As a crossing guard with a keen knowledge of traffic safety and the ability to build trust with—and command respect from—those under your care, you will maintain order and safety in and around your assigned crosswalk. As you model and reinforce proper behaviour and adherence to safety rules, you will also be responsible for reporting driver infractions and any unusual or strange behaviour you observe among students and adults. You will be expected to attend yearly training sessions on traffic safety and may be called on to supervise students on school property and help out with simple office duties such as filing or answering the phone.
Along with the above capabilities, you are physically able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and know how to build successful relationships, influence behaviour and avert or resolve conflict thanks to your experience either raising or working with children.
*From its coastal beaches to its mountain forests, North Vancouver’s natural setting offers year-round recreational opportunities. Our school district’s values of accountability, creativity, collaboration and collegiality make it “the natural place to learn” for students, and “the natural place to work” for our staff.
