Job Description & Requirements

School District No. 64 (Gulf Islands) invites applications for the temporary 0.66 FTE position of Music and Theatre Teacher at Windsor House School located in Vancouver, BC. Windsor House enrolls approximately 200 students, Grades K to 12. The position is effective as soon as possible until June 30, 2019. The schedule is to be determined in consultation with the Principal.

Necessary Qualifications. Documented evidence of:                             

          B.C. Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate

          Exemplary teaching qualifications, current experience and training as a primary/intermediate/secondary teacher

          Significant post-secondary course work in drama, music and dance

          Experience introducing students to acting methods and to other elements associated with launching theatrical productions (e.g. costume, set design, lighting, direction)

          Current and solid knowledge of British Columbia’s secondary Musical Theatre curriculum

          Exemplary experience leading whole school performances

          Collaborative approach to working with colleagues and a documented ability to work successfully with a team of teachers to provide a continuum of learning 

          Experience working with students in inclusive environments supporting learning for all students

          Successful experience using appropriate technology to support and enhance student learning

          Experience working in inclusive environments supporting learning for all students


Desired Qualifications. Documented evidence of:

          A critical lens and experience in issues of race and representation as it relates to music theatre and theatre

          Experience supporting students in understanding personal and social responsibility associated with creating, preforming, and responding to musical theatre and theatre

          Experience with first peoples perspective and knowledge, other ways of knowing, and local cultural knowledge to gain understanding through theatrical works

          Experience supporting student directors and student lead technical production of multi-aged theatrical productions  

          Knowledge and practice of differentiated learning and ability to develop and facilitate individual education plans

          Collaborative approach to working with colleagues and an ability to work successfully with a team of teachers to provide a continuum of learning 

          Exemplary behaviour management and organizational skills and an ability to develop a rapport with students

          Experience in a democratic, parent participation, self-determined learning environment 

          Commitment to professional growth
