Senior Human Resources Advisor


Mission Public Schools (School District #75) is located in the heart of the Fraser Valley and proudly serves approximately 6,000 students and 1,000 staff.  We are a passionate and vibrant organization, looking for a Senior Human Resources Advisor to lead the recruitment of new employees, to support labour relations, and to support employees in return to work programs.


Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Senior Human Resources Advisor leads the hiring and recruitment process for the School District from marketing, education/job fairs, and interviewing, through to supporting on-boarding and placing new employees.  As a senior advisor, the position provides labour relations advice and guidance and provides support with grievances, arbitrations and labour contract negotiations.  In addition, the position leads the wellness management program.

  • Superior interpersonal, oral and written communication, problem solving, presentation, training, and conflict resolution skills.

  • Superior knowledge of HR practices and procedures.

  • Superior ability to interpret and apply Collective Agreement language, School District policies and procedures.

  • Ability to establish and foster collaborative and productive relationships with all levels throughout the organization and external agencies.

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately, with integrity and discretion.

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, deal with uncertainty, in a complex and changing environment

  • Detail-oriented with excellent analytical skills

  • Proficient with standard office applications and ability to adapt to other specialized software applications as required (e.g. Microsoft office).

  • An approachable demeanor with a balance of assertiveness and empathy


Education and Certification:

  • Diploma in Human Resource Management or equivalent. 

  • Current and valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and safe driving record.



  • A minimum of five years of related human resources experience in a unionized environment, preferably in the public sector or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Supervision experience.


    Other Education and Experience:

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • CPHR designation preferred.


Note:  A clear Criminal Record is required for this position, with a review to be updated every five (5) years.
