INDIGENOUS YOUTH WORKER – CONTINUING / CASUAL

Coquitlam School District invites applications from individuals for the position of Youth Worker – Indigenous Education for both permanent and casual positions. As the third largest school district in the province, we are located within a 40-minute drive from downtown Vancouver. The school district has a population of 32,000 students with approximately 4,300 teaching, administrative, managerial and support staff.

Working under the direction of administrator/designate, the youth worker implements and promotes individualized and/or group programs in First Nations studies under the direction of the teacher.

Required knowledge and Skills:

· Completion of a two-year post-secondary education diploma in child/youth care from a recognized college/institution or

· Completion of two years of university course work in Psychology or Sociology.

· Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License

· A thorough knowledge of First Nations cultures, traditions and values demonstrated through Indigenous Ancestry.

The successful applicant will be a person of Indigenous ancestry in accordance with an approved special program under Section 42(3) of the British Columbia Human Rights Code.

Both continuing and casual positions are unionized and offer $33.28/hour. Continuing positions are 37.5 hours / week while school is in session and include an attractive benefit package which consists of Extended Health, Dental, and Pension Plan (MPP). Casual positions offer 16% in lieu of benefits.
