Langley School District invites applications for the position of Special Education Assistant – ABA. These individuals work in a collaborative
team environment, receive direction from the teacher and report to the School
Administrator. The work involves providing assistance to the teacher with the
delivery of programs and services as outlined in the student's Individual
Education Plan (IEP). A Special Education Assistant - ABA supports students who
meet the Ministry of Education criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder and are
involved in a District approved ABA home program.
and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
students with special needs in the completion of prescribed academic, social,
recreation, and leisure programs, work experience programs, and in the
development of personal independence, self-care (possibly including feeding,
dressing, toileting, and mobility), and gross motor skills.
with implementation and monitoring of Applied Behaviour Analysis programs
including observation, record keeping and follow-up.
with maintenance of records related to student progress, including anecdotal
reports to parents. Also in the
administering, scoring & recording results of criterion referenced/teacher
with implementation of speech and language therapy, and student supervision.
home based meetings as required by school staff.
gross motor exercises under the guidance of a physiotherapist or teacher.
children in/on various specialized equipment.
other assigned comparable duties which are within the scope of knowledge,
skills and abilities required by this class specification.
12 graduation and possession of a Special Education Teacher Assistant
Certificate or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
years of direct experience including 500 hours of direct support as a behaviour
interventionist or therapist in a home ABA program. Hours are approved by a
Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) working in a home program and the
District VP or District Teacher - ASD.
to be flexible to meet the varying academic, social, emotional and behavioural
needs of students.
First Aid Certificate desirable including sufficient medical knowledge to
effectively cope with students.
to interact with the students in an effective manner.
to communicate effectively using tact, discretion and diplomacy in contacts of
a difficult or specialized nature.
confidentiality of sensitive information.
to determine, judge and select appropriate course of action within limits of
established methods and procedures.
knowledge of behaviour management techniques and task analysis techniques.
knowledge of computers.
ability to perform the required duties.
of Pay: $27.13 per hour
