School Bus Driver

Temporary

 

The Greater Victoria School District provides public educational services to over 20,000 students in the Greater Victoria Area, encompassing six municipalities.  To provide this service, the District has a current operating budget of $190 million and employs approximately 3,500 staff; which includes, teachers, principals and vice-principals, support staff, psychologists, speech and language pathologists and exempt managerial staff.

 

Reporting to the Manager, Fleet and Transportation, the School Bus Driver operates a school bus to transport students in accordance with District Bus Drivers’ Manual, NSC Safety Manual and School District Policy.

 

The position of Bus Driver is new to the school district as we move school busing in house. The positions are being posted externally as temporary positions until the winter break (December 18, 2020) to provide for an internal posting in the fall for current employees who do not work in the summer months. Should there be no qualified internal candidates, the successful external candidates may be converted to regular, permanent employees subject to a successful completion of the probationary period.

 

The Bus Driver positions for the 2020-21 school year are expected to be a 7 or 8 hour workday combining before and after school care routes for elementary students and a shuttle between sites for secondary students in the mid-day.

 

The successful candidate must have Grade 10, valid Class 2 British Columbia Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement, Level 1 First Aid and CPR certificate and a minimum of 2 years bus driving experience. 

 

This position falls under the CUPE collective agreement at a pay rate of $24.69 per hour plus benefits.  This position is subject to review with the Joint Job Evaluation Committee.
