Position Summary

The Dzawada’enuxw First Nation community school, Lilawagila, welcomes applications for a Grade 4 – Grade 7 Intermediate teacher. We are looking for an organized, compassionate teacher with confident classroom management skills. Applicants should be capable of creating a caring, and respectful environment for our students. Experience with indigenous students a plus.

Successful applicants need to be focused on improving student achievement and wellbeing and be positive members of our team. Lilawagila includes a (baby to K4) Head Start program, a K5 to Grade 3 Primary class, and a Grade 4 to Grade 7 Intermediate class.

Our Intermediate teacher is responsible for providing education for approximately 6 students including teaching, assessment, and reporting for all subjects in accordance with B.C. Ministry of Education curriculum content and competencies.

  • Coordinate remote support from developmental learning specialists.
  • Committed to incorporating technology into teaching and studying.

Qualification/Requirements

  • Be in possession of a British Columbia Teaching Certificate.
  • Experience teaching in a multi-grade setting.
  • Have excellent interpersonal and classroom management skills.
  • Demonstrate a professional work ethic and experience in a leadership position.
  • Successfully pass a Criminal Record Check – vulnerable sector.

Dzawada’enuxw First Nation

Our community, Ukwanalis Village, is based alongside the Gwa’yi (Kingcome) River on the mainland in a glacier fed river valley, surrounded by tall mountains, across from the Northern tip of Vancouver Island.

We refer to ourselves as both the Dzawada’enuxw and the Musgamakw Dzawada’enuxw. The outside world sees us as four tribes, however, we have always been one people. We know this from our origin stories, co-habitation, and respectful shared resource use. The Dzawada’enuxw First Nation are members of the Kwakwaka’wakw group of nations. The Kwakwaka’wakw people occupy the lower central region of the Pacific Northwest Coast. We are an isolated community with travel in and out by seaplane or by boat only.
