SECONDARY DRAMA/DANCE TEACHER
The Richmond School District is an exciting, multicultural, educational organization that provides public education for 21,000 students K-12. We are a vibrant learning community that fosters students’ engagement, creativity, and well-being in inclusive learning environments through our focus on Big Ideas and Inquiry, Assessment and Communicating Student Learning and Social Emotional Learning.
This temporary position consists of 2 blocks of Drama, 2 blocks of Dance and 2 blocks of the grade 8 elective wheel combination of Drama/Dance, and 1 block of Career Education (one of grades 8, 9, or 11. TBA)
Interested applicants are expected to have excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, parents, and colleagues, as well as a demonstrated ability to plan and implement (adapt and modify) activities designed to meet the needs of all individual students. A keen interest in student-teacher relationships and a commitment to working collaboratively with staff towards achieving goals in the school growth plan and the department are essential.
There is an expectation that the successful applicant will work to support both the Drama and Dance students in their extra-curricular practices and performances. Our Theatre program works throughout the year to prepare to perform a production. This will entail some after school rehearsal time, as well as performance days/evenings. Also, our Dance students compete in up to 4 competitions in the lower mainland and the Dance teacher sponsors such events.
Full time teachers at MacNeill are also assigned an Advisory class that meets daily. Students engage in teacher-led lessons, conversations and activities designed to teach and support our school-wide PBIS that occurs during Advisory class. Advisory classes happen most days. Advisory teachers stay with the same group of students from grade 8 -12. Advisory classes have been intended to provide opportunity for teachers to build rapport and relationship with students as well as being the place for the teaching of POWER lessons.
