Hiring for September 2024! This is a new position at our school. Teachers are paid year-round, so the position and training begins in August 2024.

Role

The Blended LSS Teacher works with families, the LSS Directors, classroom teachers, educational assistants, community support professionals, and administrative staff to ensure the implementation of Inclusive Education programs for K-12 students. Blended LSS teachers will work directly with classroom teachers, collaborating on Universal and Essential supports based on individual students. As needed the LSS blended teacher will collaborate with Behaviour Consultants to create Behaviour plans and support classroom teachers in implementing strategies. This role requires teachers to be on a hybrid work schedule of 2-3 days a week in-class (in Cloverdale, B.C.) and the remaining days will be worked remotely.

Responsibilities

● Provide support for families with students who have special educational needs.

● Maintain knowledge and access to resources and strategies to assist students and maintain knowledge of curriculum requirements, resources and activities.

● Oversee educational assistants (EAs)

● Ensure weekly dialogue with parents and/or students.

● Monitor and evaluate student progress.

● Complete with all administrative requirements and maintaining all documentation to ensure that students qualify for Ministry of Education Special Needs funding

On-site for Blended (in-person) Classrooms located in Cloverdale, British Columbia 2-3 days a week as scheduled.

Duties

● Coordinates assessments necessary to identify students’ specific educational needs.

● Maintains all documentation to ensure that students qualify for Ministry of Education Special Needs funding

● Develops and updates Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and student learning plans (SLPs)

● Creates a student support plan with outside agencies and service providers (B.C. SLPs, OT, PT, EAs, etc). Manages student funding allocations and monitors changes, including a termly support plan review with families.

● Assists parents and educational assistants with access to services available to support the delivery of the IEP.

● Ensures parents, students and administration have access to IEP and student learning plans and/or individualized course outlines.

Instruction

● Rotate through TLA’s blended classes (K-12), visiting each class on a regular basis as determined with LSS administration. Weekly schedule will be flexible with a balance of remote and on-site work days, however applicants should be available to be on-site Monday-Friday as needed. A typical week would likely be two days on site and 3 days working remotely.

● Guides Classroom teachers and EAs in the implementation of the IEPs including universal and essential supports.

● Offer support for any academic accommodations needed as per the students' IEP

● Opportunities to co-teach classes in the K-9


Communication

● Maintains ongoing and frequent communication with students and their parents in a supportive and encouraging manner. This involves a minimum of one formal in-person or live electronic session at the start of the year, and ongoing weekly communication.

● Communicates weekly with EAs on student progress.

● Maintains communication with professionals, agencies, support staff and any subject-specialist teachers, and collects reports 3 times a year.


Assessment

● Develop a process for assessment and evaluation of each student’s program as it related to their SLP and IEP goals. Collect and record evidence for meeting or not meeting goals, such as work samples, teacher initiated assessment professional reports, EA reports. From this information, the teacher prepares two formal written reports(s) each school year in line with TLA’s Report Card policy.

● Assess and report on progress towards meeting IEP goals

● Advise parents and students on suitable learning resources and services to meet the student’s needs and to fulfill the IEP goals prescribed and personal learning outcomes.

● Collaborate with the TLA LSS team and administration to work together to solve a common problem or address a common concern.

Minimum Qualifications : BC teachers’ certificate with Special Education focus and/or relevant experience.
